Privacy Policy
Effective 25 October 2026
The short version. Cookalogue keeps track of the cookbooks and recipes you save so you can search them. We collect what we need to run that, we don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps. Photos of the dishes you cook stay on your phone.
Cookalogue is run by Giddy Up Creative Pty Ltd (ACN 167 418 760), Adelaide, South Australia ("we", "us"). Questions: privacy@cookalogue.com.
1. What we collect
Your account
When you first open the app we create an anonymous account so your shelf can be saved. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and an identifier from that provider. We don't receive your Apple or Google password.
Your shelf and activity
The books you add, the recipes you like, cook, collect or plan, your collections, meal plans, notes you write on recipes, and the cooking links you save. This is the core of the app, and it's stored so it's there on every device you sign in on.
Imported recipes
When you save a recipe from a website or social post, we fetch that page and keep the recipe's title, source and link, details such as ingredients and cooking times so you can search it, and a copy of its main photo so it still shows if the original changes.
Cookbook index photos
If you photograph a book's cover and index so we can add it, the photos are uploaded and read by an AI service to extract recipe names and page numbers. We keep the photos only until our team has checked the result, then delete them. The recipe names and page numbers are kept and may be added to our shared catalogue so other owners of that book can search it too. They don't identify you.
Ask Mise
When you speak to Mise, your phone turns your speech into text on the device using Apple's speech recognition. That text, and the last few turns of the conversation, are sent to our servers and an AI service to find matching recipes on your shelf. Mise's spoken reply is generated by a voice service and stored briefly so your phone can play it. We count how many questions you ask each day to apply usage limits.
Photos of your dishes
Photos you add to recipes you've cooked are stored on your phone only. We never upload them.
Reports and messages
If you report a problem or a wrong page number, we receive what you send, plus technical details (such as the app version and the book or job involved) so we can fix it. If you email us, we receive your email.
Purchases
Subscriptions are paid through Apple. We never see your card details. We receive a record of your subscription (which plan, and when it starts and renews) so we can unlock Cookalogue Plus.
Usage analytics
We record how the app is used, for example that a book was added, a search was run or the paywall was shown, along with your app version, device type and plan. This helps us see what works and what doesn't. We don't record what you search for, recipe or book titles, or your notes. Your IP address is discarded and isn't stored. If you answer "How did you hear about Cookalogue?" we store your answer. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous usage data.
2. How we use it
- To run Cookalogue: save your shelf, search it, show you the right book and page, and sync across your devices.
- To add books you photograph and to improve the accuracy of the catalogue.
- To provide Ask Mise.
- To manage your subscription and free trial.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it.
- To answer your reports and messages, and to keep the service secure.
We don't sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
3. Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Cookalogue, such as cloud hosting and storage, AI processing for reading index photos and imported pages and for Ask Mise, Mise's voice, subscription management, usage analytics, and book information services. They may only use your information to provide their service to us, and are bound to protect it.
If you sign in with Apple or Google, or subscribe through the App Store, those companies also handle your information under their own privacy policies. A current list of our providers is available on request at privacy@cookalogue.com.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or restructure of our business (in which case this policy would continue to apply).
4. Where it's stored
Your information is stored and processed in the United States, and may be processed by our providers in other countries. We choose providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Australian privacy law.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account and shelf: until you delete your account.
- Index photos: until the book has been reviewed, then deleted.
- Mise audio: a short time, so your phone can play it.
- Analytics: up to seven years, without your IP address.
- Reports and emails: as long as needed to deal with them.
Copies may remain in backups for a limited time before they're overwritten.
6. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time in the app under Settings. This removes your shelf, notes, collections, plans and imported recipes. Recipe names and page numbers you contributed to the shared catalogue stay, as they don't identify you.
- Turn off analytics in Settings.
- Access or correct your information, or ask a question, by emailing privacy@cookalogue.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
- Subscriptions are managed and cancelled in your Apple ID settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as asking for a copy of your information or objecting to how it's used. Email us and we'll help. We won't treat you differently for using them.
7. Security
Your information is sent over encrypted connections and access to it is restricted to the people who need it to run Cookalogue. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect it and will tell you if a breach affects you as the law requires.
8. Children
Cookalogue isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
